Miscellaneous Drawings #5

Previous parts: #1, #2 #3, and #4

Greetings Adventurers,

I thought it was time to do another miscellaneous drawings post! In regards to later posts...I have two Inktober posts planned, as well as a post introducing my novel for this NaNoWriMo, and a post involving Shakespeare coming soon...

But back to this post...since Halloween is near I sprinkled some spooky drawings throughout the post, along with my Fantasy drawings:
A drawing of Elm, I really like how it turned out.
I thought I would include the sun necklace she wears in the drawing.

A drawing of Karleon, the god of mischief, from Arisias's world.

This is a drawing of Galadriel from Rings of Power. I drew this long before the show came out, since I saw a promotional photo for Galadriel and thought her armor was awesome. My main focus in this drawing was the shading, which I think turned out well.

As for the show, I'm watching it now and am I really enjoying it so far. However, there are bits that bother me (the way the elves act--they're too human for my taste, also don't get me started on their hair).
A drawing of Salissah. I figured out that she is the goddess of the moon, but also the goddess of strategic fighting (fencing, archery, martial arts, etc.), as well as philosophy, much like the Greek goddess, Athena. Whereas the god of the sun is like Ares, and just cares for bloody warfare in general.

I've recently been drawing illustrations for a story with a dog character, and I decided to make another dog character. The dog doesn't have a name yet or a story, but I plan to come up with one later...

I figured with Halloween being this close, I couldn't not include a drawing of this eerie door. I drew this a while ago, and I decided to include a figure hidden in shadow on the other side of the door.
A drawing of Arwen from Lord of the Rings. This was inspired by the scene where Arwen rescues Frodo from the Ring Wraiths.

**Warning eerie drawing ahead**

This is a drawing that I created a while ago. I put the warning up in case viewers don't like spooky things, so they can scroll past it. But, my idea for the drawing, was that the woman had her dead fiancรฉe (or husband) return to reunite with her in death. I am thinking of turning it into a short story sometime.

But this drawing also helped me explore making some of my drawings spookier, which is something I intend to do when I illustrate (and publish) my book Dolls of Wax, Eyes of Glass

**The eeriness is over now...**

Willow the dryad. This is a reimagining of a Pixton character I created. I didn't include it in the post where I introduced her, since it wasn't a majority vote. But I like how it turned out.

Using Polls to Create Art #8

                                                    Previous parts: #1#2#3, #4 ,#5, #6 and  #7

Hello everyone,

I'm back with another installment of using polls to create art!

To summarize what this series is about, I post a poll asking what I should draw. People vote, and whichever choice ends up winning, I draw. Unless otherwise stated, every drawing was a majority vote.  Also I should add, some of the drawings this time around are redraws of Pixton comics I made when I was a child (I was about twelve or thirteen I think?) I had voters vote on which of them I should redraw. While the others are the usual drawings you'd see in this series.

Here's the drawing that came out of the poll in the previous post in the series.
Felix Moore from Dolls of Wax, Eyes of Glass ended up winning. So I drew him as a merman.
I had a lot of fun drawing details in the drawing like the suit and tail.

I also made a video showing my process of drawing it.

I did a poll where I redrew a painting in my style. The painting that the drawing was based on was this one. I thought it made sense for Ophelia to be using the crystal ball, given that she likes that type of magic.
I had the voters decide on which of my characters I made in Pixton I should redraw in my style.
Lieutenant Williams ended up winning. She is a half Klingon half human.
Here is what she looked like in the Pixton style:
I wrote the comic she was from years and years ago, and there were a ton of spelling errors in it.
But, I find it nice to revisit old stories and characters-- especially because they can show how different
my stories are today than they were back then.

Speaking of old stories and characters, I had the voters decide between having me redraw this Pixton comic  and another one.  The second one won, which is Edward's and Willow's wedding. I decided in the redraw not to draw them in the same pose but instead draw them in different poses. In the comic as a whole I would use real photos as the background while the characters would be Pixton characters.

Looking back at it now, the backstory of how they fell in love is really not romantic. The comic itself retold the story of The Little Mermaid (leaning towards the Disney version, not so much the Hans Christian Anderson one) but with dryads and wood cutters. And in this version Willow literately caused the shipwreck and then when she saw how handsome (and in pain) Edward was, she changed her mind. She didn't do this for the several wood cutters before ๐Ÿค”-- 1,712,302 of them to be exact, I'm not joking: that was the number I wrote in the comic, minus 1. ๐Ÿ˜†

I don't know what child-me was thinking! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Especially since Willow never once tells him that she was the dryad that did that at all

This is a drawing of Elm. I had the voters vote on what I should draw her wearing out of several options for outfits. This outfit ended up winning. I really like how the outfit looks. However, I feel her arms are a little too short proportion wise. But other than that I like the drawing.

This is a character from the same fanfic that I wrote years ago. I had another poll, about which character I should draw in my style, and she won. She is called the EEH (Emergency Engineering Hologram). I was inspired by the Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager when creating her. I wondered why there were no holograms for emergencies involving engineering. (That we can see in the show).

In the (Pixton) comic she is an enemy of the doctor on her ship. They don't have a particularly good relationship. And she was activated when most of the crew on the ship was kidnapped by aliens. So, she plays a similar role that The Doctor in Voyager plays.

This actually turned out to be a drawing that came out of a poll, and I somehow forgot that I had drawn it for that reason. This drawing was actually included in this post, though I combined it with a drawing that didn't come out of a poll.

Anyway, I had the pollers vote on which character I should draw, and what they should be doing. And Oak doing archery won.

Now for a new poll:

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Drawings 2020

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day everyone!
To celebrate I decided I would post drawings of my characters of color. In Fantasy there tends not to be as many characters of color, which is sad, but hopefully there will be more stories that do have that in the future.

The first drawing is of Elm, my dryad character.
I really love how her hair turned out in this drawing.

The second is of a character who doesn't currently have a name yet, but she is from
The Silver Key, and is a priestess and martial artist.

This character who doesn't have a name yet, was actually inspired by
the fact that Halle Bailey is going to be playing Ariel in the live action Little Mermaid
Even though the character herself is not Ariel.

A drawing of Elm dancing in the rain, I really love the way this turned out.
As for this drawing, I thought it would be fun to draw her in a pose that showed she was ready to fight. In my book, she is a very skilled marital artist and someone you probably don't want to anger or hurt her friends.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which drawing is your favorite? Also, do you have any favorite Fantasy books where the main character is a person of color?

Character Interviews: Oak (+ Questions Are Needed)

You might know Oak from my older posts, she is a half dryad ranger:

(An old drawing of Oak)

Her story was one of my first novels...that didn't end up working. But since I eventually plan to rewrite it (not now, but later), I decided I would get to know Oak. She will remain a character in the story (along with Delphi and Emily Stella), who will be the three female leads. (There will possibly be a fourth, but I don't know for sure right now).

So, it is time for another character interview! *A neon sign lights up*

*Audience applauds, and Oak walks in*

Me: It's wonderful to see you again, Oak. It's been a long time...and you look very different.
Oak: *Nods* Indeed, *sits down on the seat and remains very alert* Indeed, it has been...
Me: So...to start, I'll just simply ask, how are you?
Oak: I'm fine, I just to need to make sure no one followed me here...*looks around the room*
Me: Why would someone be following you?
Oak: *Brings out bow and arrow* I don't know, but it would be better to be safe than sorry--
Me: *Looks over at the people who let Oak in* Weren't you supposed to take her weapons away from her? That's one of the rules.
Security Officer Two:  *Popping out from behind the curtain* It's been a long time since we have had one of these interviews, why do you expect us to remember these things?
Me: Because you're security!
*A shrieking noise comes out from the left side of the stage, Oak aims her bow at it and shoots it*
Security Officer one: Uhh...
Me: So you let a creature in too?
Oak: Don't blame them...these beings are very good at hiding. Anyway, you were going to interview me?
Security officer one & two: If you want to fire us, because she is better--
Me: Shh...not now, we have an interview to do....

If you were to pick a song, what song do you think would describe you the most?
I do know some ballads, but they are mostly romantic ones, which hardly describes myself, but...
I do think this song sort of describes the energy I feel when fighting in battle:

                              Underground by Lindsey Stirling
You can also listen to it here
Also, I liked that Lindsey Stirling included the goddess Artemis in her "video."
                                         Ancient Greek music- Artemis

You can also listen to it here
This reminds me of my forest home...before the forest fire,
so it sort of describes me in a way.

Artemis by Lindsey Stirling

You can also listen to it here
I suppose this is now three songs instead of one song.
But this song reminds me of the feeling I have when I go hunting in the forest.

What, do you think of romance, yes or no?
I'm not particularly interested in romance at the moment. Other girls may be interested in talking about what they think of romance on stage *makes a disgusted face* but I don't think it is something really worth talking about. I would rather be friends with boys than being in love with them. Can we please talk about something like weapons as opposed to romance?

Me: Sure...here is a question you might like instead:
Sword or bow?
Oh good! I've used bows and arrows more often, but I am not limited to only that.
I do use daggers and swords if my opponent sneaks up on me and I am unprepared...
So to answer your question, I like both.
If you were going to a party, what would you wear?
Even if it was a festive party, I can't let my guard down. And wearing a dress would limit my abilities to protect myself. Yes people would expect me to wear one...
but for safety...I would wear something else...

My first option would be this toga:
(Image from wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_William_Waterhouse#/media/File:Circe_Offering_the_Cup_to_Odysseus.jpg (if you are uncomfortable with nudity, there is some nudity in a few of John William Waterhouse's paintings. I just wanted to warn you, if you decide to put the link into your search-bar.) )
Though it would be comfortable, it wouldn't provide much protection from possible attackers. Especially since it is easy to tell if one is hiding weapons in it.

And then I would consider this one:
(Image from wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tauriel)
It would protect me, but everyone would wonder why I was not wearing something fancy for the party and why I was being on guard.

So in the end to fulfill my need for comfort during a party, and my need for safety I would wear this:

(Image from wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_William_Waterhouse#/media/File:Miranda_-_John_William_Waterhouse.jpg (if you are uncomfortable with nudity, there is some nudity in a few of John William Waterhouse's paintings. I just wanted to warn you, if you decide to put the link into your search-bar.) )
This isn't a see-through dress so I can hide daggers around my legs,
(Image from Pixabay, https://pixabay.com/photos/knife-weapon-middle-ages-blade-1730010/)

because carrying around a bow and arrow wouldn't exactly make everyone in the party feel comfortable.

A man out of nowhere. Asks you to marry him. What do you do? (Note that he happens to be a prince from a kingdom, and is looking for someone to marry and be his queen).
I would decline, though ruling a kingdom might be an interesting thing, its not for me.
I know many girls would gladly give anything to marry a prince out of nowhere, so that they could rule a kingdom. But ruling a kingdom wouldn't be of much use to me, for it wouldn't help the world, because I would be helping but a single kingdom, and not the whole world itself.

(Last question) Who is your favorite Greek goddess? And why?
This is probably very obvious.

(Image from wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemis#/media/File:Diane_de_Versailles_Leochares.jpg (warning: if you are uncomfortable with nudity, there are a few nude paintings of Greek gods in the article, so be warned.))

But Artemis the goddess of the hunt, childbirth, and the wild is my favorite. I've always looked up to her archery abilities, and especially the fact that she loves nature.

Me: Well...that is all the time we have for now. But the next two characters who are going to be interviewed are Riona "Fire" and Celtiere *points to the audience* and I need your questions for them! I am going to make Character Interviews something that the audience (readers) can participate in. So it would be very helpful if you could leave comments asking questions for Riona and Celtiere.
See you next time! *Curtain closes and fades to black*

Who is your favorite Greek goddess? How would your own characters react to the questions I asked Oak?

Introducing Some Characters: Dryads

Hello everyone, Today I thought I would introduce you to some of my dryad (AKA nymph)
characters:

                                          Amber
Amber has the ability to speak to animals,
which was passed down through the generations of her family.
Most of her friends are animals, and others are nymphs,
but she spends most of her time talking to animals as opposed to dancing with
the other nymphs.

Elm

Elm has a beautiful voice (as most dryads do), but her voice was different.
When she sings the trees will dance to it and the animals,
humans or dryads who could be listening suddenly find themselves dancing.
Though her voice also has other powers that she is yet to find out.

Almond

Almond was given the ability to make plants grow
just by thinking about it, though she has to learn
how to control it, and at times her power has gone out of control.
----------------------------------------------
Which character is your favorite? Also what is your favorite mythical creature?

May adventures come your way,
Quinley

December Drawings

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a good weekend.
Today I felt like was a good day to make a drawing post.

Here are the drawings:

Wonder Woman in the snow, I based this on a scene from the movie.

This drawing is my new header.
I kept the theme of the dryad in the tree.

A Christmas elf, I liked how she turned out.
I had fun drawing her braids.

Legolas in the snow, this was inspired by a scene from Lord of The Rings.
I thought Legolas turned out well.

Another Christmas elf,  I like how his hat turned out.

A drawing of a dreidel, I like how it turned out.

This drawing was inspired by Lindsey Stirling's Shatter Me
I like the pose she is in.

A girl in the snow. I like how her hair turned out.

The Holiday Fairy, I tried to include most of the holidays in her outfit.
The holidays I have represented are Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
And this character will show up in a short story I plan to post on December 24th.

----------------------------------------------------------
Which drawing is your favorite? And are you excited for the holidays?
Also do you like my new header?

Tess Short Chapter 12

Greetings, I'm sorry for my delay in posting the next chapter...
But here it is....

chapter 12: An ill warning..
Theron looked at her for awhile then said “No, the leafs aren’t supposed to have any side effects, there supposed to stop nightmares and bad dreams” his eyes seemed to moved around the room when he said that.
“Well…” sighed Tess, she could feel her own heart beating. “I had a dream…”.
“You did? what kind of dream?”
Tess told Theron about her dream, about Mr.largefoot, and the moon ravens at the very end.
“I don’t know why the leafs didn’t help you” he said, Then he fumbled in his pocket and brought out a parcel wrapped up in brown fabric. “This might though” His voice sounded unsure though, he handed it to Tess, which Tess held.
“Only open it when you need it though” he said, and left.
Tess looked at the parcel, she was holding. there was something about it though that made her feel unsafe and insecure, she tried not to think about it. and went off to her room to get dressed , for there was going to be a long journey ahead…
Tess went and packed her things, and put the parcel in the bag,
It was almost like it was watching her, like a cat looking at a mouse in the bushes, getting ready to pounce, at any moment.
She tried not to think about it and packed some spare clothes, that the dryads had given her , she had never put them on they were to pretty to wear…but she kept them just in case she ever needed them, or wanted to wear them, she put them in her bag. then looked at the two books she had brought, The book of Dragons, and The book of history, she picked up the books and placed them into her strap bag. Then looked at the white and gray clothes the elves had given her, though she was a half elf she wondered weather she would be able to keep them clean, and not get mud and dirt on them. She looked down at her brown dress, it was torn at the edges…probably because she had been walking through the undergrowth to get to the palace. Well…she figured she would bring them anyway, I mean you might need something to wear like that, If she was ever invited to a dinner. She put them in her bag. She looked at the rolling pin sitting on her bed. She had lied to Robin that she had brought a dagger, But she had really just brought a rolling pin… Why hadn’t she just told him? She sighed and put it into her bag then slung it over her shoulder. And opened the door. The rest of the group was waiting for her, Thanarien was standing silently with the questers. “Good morning Tess” smiled Robin. Tess didn’t reply , she silently went over with the other questers.
Thanarien went up and made a speech that seemed to last for hours, Until he finally ended it..
In that time Tess had been reading a book, she looked up when she heard the sound of applause, from the elves and faeries who had come to Thanarien’s court. But no dryads had come, And how had Silena been able to come, she looked over at Silena, who was talking to Robin, she figured she would’t interrupt them. She looked back at the book, she still hadn’t finished the story of the ice-dragon she had gotten to the middle. “What are you reading?” asked a voice. Tess looked up The black-haired Fairy Thistle was smiling at her.
“Well…” said Tess. “I’m reading the book of dragons, I’m on the Tale of the Ice dragon”.
“Is it good?” asked Thistle.
“Aye” said Tess, smiling back. “It is about dragons, I was assigned to read for the book club..” She moved her finger across the dragon on the cover of the book.
Before Thistle could reply , Thanarien announced the horses were ready.
Tess put the book back in her bag, and walked up to see the horses, Robin’s horse chestnut was looking at her.. Tess pretended not to notice, and climbed onto her pony. Once everyone had gotten on to there Horses, The questers set off into the cold morning air , Tess couldn’t help feeling her bag, and to make sure the parcel was still there. She looked over at Thistle, He was looking at the map, which Thanarien had given to them for the journey… Thistle seemed to be looking at it. Then looked up, “since the moon Ravens appear  to be coming from The north , Then I believe we should go that way” said Thistle. “By flying it would take less time….But since none of you have wings.. I don’t think we could do that…”.

“That is true…” said Robin, who was rather glad that he didn’t have wings sticking out of his back, It most be so uncomfortable for Thistle, Having wings coming out of his back.

“So Riding and walking, Would be good for us” he said, “Come on, We have to find those fairies and elves”.

Tess still wondered about What had happened to those elves and faeries , she also wondered why her uncle Tirfendiel had never showed up for the meeting, Thanarien sounded awfully calm when he said that her uncle Tirfendiel was late (and never came). But when she talked to most elves they seemed that way…expect of course for Robin, He was always talking to his horse Chestnut, and held his sword with shaking hands he never really seemed a expert with weapons, though he carried around a single sword, Very much like her Uncle Tirfendiel, She was happily surprised when he came to her Birthday Party, He always carried around a single sword, That Glowed Green when ever monsters were around , But for some reason he did have a tendency to apologize to it for some weird reason , If he dropped it (By accident may I add) it would start flickering on and off, and he would pick it up, And would say things to it , such as “I’m very sorry I didn’t mean to drop you” , and “Oh dear, not again” and sometimes “It wasn’t my fault!!” The sword appeared to have a tendency to sulk and refuse to tell him if there were Monsters around. Sometimes, It appeared that sometimes he had to beg to the sword to glow and forgive him, for dropping it.

She put her hand on her bracelet which the dryads had given her , it was in a shape of branches weaving around to make a bracelet, The dryad had told her that it was made out of the same metal as elvish blades , it would glow whenever monsters were around, Very much like her uncles sword, which glowed whenever monsters around (or whenever he dropped it), She still wasn’t quite sure how elvish blades worked or the metal in particular. Did it just glow when you dropped it or only when monsters were around? She didn’t really want to try dropping it, Like her uncle had dropped his sword. She didn’t want to damage it , it was so pretty…
She moved her finger around the branches, and feeling the cold metal, with her finger. She was brought back to that same question again… what had happened to the elves and fairies?

“Here” said a voice, Tess hadn’t realized how far they had traveled, the castle was no where to be seen now. “Is a good spot to rest for the night” it was Robin , his rather short and choppy  Nut-brown hair was blowing in the breeze, she could see the sun setting behind him, soon it would be night. And many things would be out.

“How about we sleep in a Inn” said Tess, not wanting to be eaten by a monster considering what had happened last time. she had nearly became a cyclops dinner. “Where it’s warm, and we have comfortable beds, and good food and—“.

“Tess!” said Robin, “There is no Inn near by that I know of, that’s why we will be sleeping here for tonight” .

He didn’t speak to Tess after that neither did Tess, she remained quite and only read her book , she didn’t want to go to sleep instead she read her book that she had brought on the journey , she figured she should learn more about the monsters they would be dealing with:

Orcs - once where elves, but turned evil…

She couldn’t keep her eyes open, she found them slowly closing, she turned to the next page of the book, but was greeted with more text…

She sighed, “This is the only time words feel like a enemy”, and closed the book. and Stared up at the sky…

“Oh how I miss home…” she said, and felt her eyes close.

“Why did I have to close my eyes” she found herself saying, and looked around. she was in the library. “Well…maybe it’s a good dream” said Tess. “Or it was the fact that I was reading a book before bed” she said.
“Maim , are you looking for something?” came a voice,
a boy came over to her. “Who are you?” asked Tess. “
I should be asking that who are you?” he asked. “
Tess Short” said Tess.
“Never heard of you” he said.
“But I have live here” she said.
“Not anymore” he said, rather causally. “Have  you looked out the window?” he asked.
“Umm…no, why should I?” she said.
“You shall see” he said, and lifted up the curtain.
“W-what is that?” asked Tess, looking out the window, the sky was black , the sun was red, everyone looked unhappy, and Tired.
“And I suppose you are wondering what this means” he said. Tess nodded. “This is what might happen if you fail your quest” he said, stroking his chin.
“Wait, what do you mean? why haven’t you ever heard of me? what about my father?” she asked all at once.
“Hold your horse— ponies I should say, your father is fine. the rest of your family not so much…” he said.
“what do you mean?” asked Tess. “
Well, I can’t really tell you” he said. “But if you want their addresses I can give them to you” he said, and brought out a pen. “But I wouldn’t recommend going to King Tirfindiel’s castle , right now.…because eh— I can’t tell you but It’s a terrible idea” he said. “
Thank you, but can you direct me to my father’s house?” she asked.
“Sure” he said. “But it’s no where nearby really (anymore)” he said.
“Don’t worry , it’s a dream anything can happen” said Tess. “Such as flying” she said, and spread her arms wide, nothing happened. “
It’s not that kind of dream” he said. “Here I can walk you there” he said…
at the end of the street there was a sign: The short’s hole in the ground. “Why isn’t it in the woods?” asked Tess, walking up to the door.
“Because— never mind I can’t tell you that would be helping you, and I don’t help people unless it involves books” he said. Tess knocked on the door,
“Whoever you are, leave! I already paid the taxes you have been ordering!” came a voice, most likely her father’s. She turned to the boy who had come along with her he was gone.
“I wonder why he would leave me here?” she said, to herself then turned back to the door. “I came here, to talk to you” she replied back.
“I’m sorry, but’s not safe to talk to strangers” said the voice said back.
“I am no stranger” said Tess, but couldn’t help feeling like she was. suddenly there a sound that sounded like thunder rumbling she turned around, a man was walking down the street
“Bring out your money” he shouted, he was wearing black and din’t look like the nicest person (Tess thought he resembled a orc), there was a short hobbit following behind playing the drum and falling over his own feet (he seemed oddly familiar), he didn’t look very happy with playing the drum.
“Come on hobbit stop falling behind” The tax collector  shouted to the drum player. the drum-player dropped the drum with a loud crash ,
“Don’t you dare call me that ever!” The Hobbit shouted loudly.

Tess’s eyes opened with a start, she looked around then noticed something her bracelet was glowing!
