The Terrible Idea (A short story)

Hi everyone!:)
Today I thought I would post a short story, with the characters from this post .
This story involves elves, hobbits and, well... not well thought out ideas.
This story was actually inspired by a story I found in my writing notebook.
The original story that inspired it was only a few paragraphs long
compared to the one that you are going to read that is a lot longer:

(By the way- this a character development story and not the official story of A Thousand Years)

Tirfendiel paced around the cavern, the sound of his foot-steps was combined with the sound of water falling from the ceiling…
the only light that could be seen was the one coming from his sword…it glowed a lime green color which made the cave look even more eerie…
There was a stumble and a sound of something hitting against the stone floor… Tirfendiel turned around and shined the light from his sword where the sound was coming from.
“Who goes there? Show yourself!” he said, but it came out more like: “W-who are you? S-show Y-yourself!!”

“It’s just me,” said a filmier voice, a girl with blond hair tied into a loose braid appeared out of the darkness… it was Gletta, what a relief.
“Where's Mr. Short?” asked Tirfendiel, who was clutching his sword which was still glowing…
“I don’t know…” said Gletta, then she turned to her head to look at Tirfendiel’s sword.
“Are monsters still around? Why is your sword still glowing?” she asked
“I don’t know,” said Tirfendiel. “It just happened…after I managed to defeat that troll. And it has been glowing ever since then.”
“Well…” said Gletta, staring into the vast darkness… she was silent for a moment then she spoke: “What do you think could have happened to Mr. Short?”
“I don’t know…” said Tirfendiel, feeling that he too was worried, even though he thought Mr. Short had been rather annoying, on the other hand he had begun to like that hobbit, and he didn’t like to think of what could have happened to him, if he hadn’t escaped.
“But we must try to get out of this cave and then look for him and—“ before Tirfendiel had even finished that thought there was a sound in the darkness.
“What was that?” asked Tirfendiel, feeling the bravery he had before had disappeared.
“I don’t know” said Gletta, grabbing a arrow from her quiver and putting her bow at a ready. “If any trolls followed us here…that might explain why your sword is still glowing.”
Gletta walked silently up to where the sound had been, she made sure her foot-steps were as light as possible. She was determined to find out what was there and to figure out why Tirfendiel’s sword was still glowing. There was another thump again in the darkness, and a groan.
‘What could be out there?’ she thought. She turned her head towards Tirfendiel who was still standing (rather stiffly) in the same place, while clutching his sword which remained glowing.
“Aren’t you coming!?” whispered Gletta.
“N-no, I am fine,” he whispered back. “I will just stay here.”
Gletta sighed, and went on ahead anyway…it didn’t matter if Tirfendiel didn’t want to come she would just go and see what it was. She walked silently in the darkness of the cave. She could hardly see a thing. She wished Tirfendiel could have come with her, but on the other hand she understood why he didn’t want to go, who knew what danger lay ahead? Suddenly there was a thump in the darkness. Gletta turned around, she couldn’t see a thing..and worst of all, if there was something out there, she couldn’t see it.

“Who are you? Show yourself!” she said, trying to sound brave, even though on the inside she felt terrified.
“Ow…How am I expected to show myself? You can hardly see your hand in front of your face, here in this darkness” said the voice, it sounded a lot like Mr. Short, but how could it be? She hadn’t seen him when they had to escape from the trolls (It had been one of Tirfendiel’s badly thought out plans that got them stuck in this situation) but on the other hand maybe it was him.
“Mr. Short, is that you?” she asked, though she wasn’t sure she trusted the speaker of the voice. What if it was a spirit trying to trick her?
“Yes…” the voice said, there was a sigh of frustration from the darkness.
“Are you alright?” said Gletta, not quite knowing what to say…
“I think I lost my best pocket handkerchief,” said the voice. “I must of lost it during the fall.”
“Umm…” mumbled Gletta, she wasn’t quite sure what to say, she wasn’t interested in pocket handkerchiefs, nor did she own one…she wasn't quite sure why Mr. Short even carried one.
“How about since we found you…I can take you to where Tirfendiel is waiting.”

“Alright…” said the voice, and took her hand.
They both walked back to where Tirfendiel was…he was shaking his sword, as if trying to figure out why it was still glowing.
He turned around when he saw Mr. Short and Gletta.
“You found Mr. Short? But I thought—“ began Tirfendiel, but even before he could finish Mr. Short interrupted.
“I was fine...sort of, I lost my pocket handkerchief…But thankfully the trolls didn’t get me.”
There was a long akward silence between the questers. Finally, Gletta spoke:
“Umm…may I ask how do we intend on getting out of here?”
“I don’t know.” said Tirfendiel. “But maybe if we—“ before Tirfendiel could even finish his thought he was interrupted by Mr. Short and Gletta:
“No!! Please not one of your ideas again!”
Tirfendiel sighed, “You didn’t even let me finish…And anyway why are so against my ideas?”
“Well, last time you came up with an idea…it, well, got us all stuck here!” said Gletta.
Tirfendiel sighed… “That can't possibly be true. I always come up with amazing ideas—“
“Actually…I remember you suggesting we should use a catapult as a way to see what was faraway—” Mr. Short stated.
“—As I was saying, my ideas always work out and I never come up with terrible ones!” he said.
“Except for maybe one time.”
Mr.Short and Gletta stared at Tirfendiel in a inquisitive way.

“What!? I remember most of my ideas working” he said.

Hope you enjoyed reading the story,

Have you or your characters ever come up with crazy ideas? And have the ideas worked?

The character Karaoke tag// A thousand Years

I was tagged by Anna at A world through her heart...Thank you Anna!:)

Of course since this tag has to do with Music. I was super excited to write this post (since I have theme songs for all of my characters) and since one of the questions was
What song would play at your character's wedding?
I figured I should do one of my stories (note: this story is still being plotted out): A thousand Years
This story is a prequel to Tess Short. and it was inspired by Jane Austen and J.R.R Tolkien...

Also sorry for the weird format...Blogger had some issues with the captions and HTML, and at times I had to fix it.

It's Your Character's wedding day what song plays during their first dance?

The first song that is Likely to play at Mr. Short's and Princess Gletta's wedding is

A Thousand Years by Christina Perri

Or you can watch it on youtube here

and the song happens to also be the main theme song of the story...

                            What song(s) describe your protagonist(s)?
There are a few main protagonists in the story...
but I am only going to choose three out of the group

                                                       Princess Gletta
(Original pictures from,
https://www.pinterest.com/explore/viking-hair/?lp=true
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forest#/media/File:Adirondacks_in_May_2008.jpg
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/435301120212356460/)

Princess Gletta is brave, strong, and very independent...

though she will have to decide between love and becoming the queen.
In my mind she is like a Jane Austen Heroine,
though I am going to read  more Jane Austen before I write the story...

                                                          These songs describes her personality:

                                            Touch The Sky From Brave

Or you can watch it on youtube here
The reason why I chose this song is
that Gletta is a ranger much like Merida.

A thousand years (Part 2) By Christina Perri (Feat.Steve Kazee)

Or you can watch it on youtube here

I can Imagine this as a song both Mr. Short and Gletta would sing...
though the first two lyrics go with Gletta more...

                                                                   Mr. Short

                  ( original Pictures from http://hero.wikia.com/wiki/Bilbo_Baggins
                       https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bag_End_door.jpg
                       https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Forest#/media/File:Smoky_forest.jpg)

Mr. Short thinks of himself as a "normal" hobbit (at least most of the time),
though he does have a brave and adventurous side which comes out during the quest...
He also is a very good story teller... (And probably will narrate the story along with Tirfendiel, and Gletta)

and I thought these songs did a good job of describing it:
Something Wild By Lindsey Stirling Ft.Andrew Mc.Mahon

Or you can watch it on YouTube here

You'll Be in my heart By Phill Collins

or you can watch it on YouTube here
Though this song reminded me of Mr.short's love for Gletta.

                                                   Prince Tirfindiel

 (original Images from https://www.pinterest.com/pin/305048574732080077/
               https://www.pinterest.com/pin/52424783133883037/
                    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/384917099388887333/      )

Second in line to the throne of the woodland kingdom...
Though he is not the evil second in line to the throne who plans to overthrow                                       the first in line... No he is quite the opposite.
He actually does not want to be a king at all and would prefer to remain a                                            prince... and never have to think of the idea of ruling a kingdom.
-he has a sword that glows green, which he carries with him at all times.

He also is probably the character with the most bad luck...
He tries to be perfect most of the time...and well ,fails.

Tirfindiel isn't really one for singing he likes background music instead of a                                      song to sing to. Though I can Imagine him humming:

Assassin's Creed III by Lindsey Stirling

Or you can watch it on youtube here

                                     and maybe even....

                                          The sacrifice of Faramir
(Feat. Billy Boyd preforming "The Edge of Night")

Or you can watch it on youtube here
Though he would most likely sing this song silently to himself...
                                    and not out loud.

Any Instrument players or characters with Ties to music?

 (Pictures from

         and a screenshot from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GiIPY57TKY )

Well...The Oracle (who is a recurring character in the series) sings her fortunes to people...
Mr.short and Gletta might sing in the story. The Oracle is more of a musician then the other characters:
Metroid Prime credits Vocal Version by Erutan
Or you can watch it on youtube here
This song performed by Erutan, describes The Oracle well, both in her love of music and in her powers of future-seeing.

Go to Songs, for Battle, Romance or Intense scenes?

Hmm...well I doubt anyone would be singing in battle (because my story would become a musical instead of a Fantasy adventure story). But background music for battle scenes would be interesting.
Anyway, here is the song that I think would go well with the end battle scene:

The Call by Regina Spektor

Or you can watch it on youtube here
Though this song would probably show up at the very end of the book...when they defeat the Villain (I have no idea who that is yet.)

                                                      I Tag:

Jane Maree// Maiden of the Misty Mountains

Gray Marie // Writing is life

                                                   Emma// Drawn to Writing

and anyone who wants to do it, you are welcome too!:)

                             --------------------------------------
That was fun to write and I feel like I know the characters better.

I am going to post the other tags soon...
it just happened that I was finished writing this one first...

Do you have any theme songs for your characters or your stories?
Which of the characters I mentioned was your favorite?

Tess short's Story chapter 14

If you haven't read the other chapters you can read them here

Chapter 14: The Magic Shop

Finn opened his eyes to find he was lying on a cold stone floor, he got up. but couldn’t help falling back down again. he looked around His friends where nowhere in sight. Had the orcs caught them? he tried not to think of the worse, he tried to stand up again this time, he managed to stand up but was wobbling his legs felt like jelly, the thought of Jelly made him hungry, but he shook the thought out of his head. he looked around, he had appeared to be in a small broom closet there where brooms propped up angst the wall, a few cobwebs hung down. It looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned, he leaned himself angst the wall. trying not to fall over, the world was still spinning, he was sure after this he would never use a portal .He tried to walk out of the closet but couldn’t move without falling down, he peered over the door. he heard voices, but could not make out what they where saying. suddenly he felt a warm hand on his shoulder.
before he could say anything the voice spoke
“Now what brings you to my magic shop?” asked the voice.
“I..I..” began Finn.
“Oh come sit down.” said the voice, Finn looked up. It was a man with a long gray beard, his robes where scarlet red, his eyes where a warm brown.  Finn was led to wooden seats, with cushions on them, Finn collapsed onto one. “Would you like some tea?” asked the wizard.
“Y-yes” said Finn. The wizard poured Finn and Himself a cup of tea, and took a seat next to Finn.
“What’s your name?” asked the wizard.

“f-Finn S-short” said Finn his voice was still shaking.

“Now anyway Finn, how did you stumble upon my shop?” he asked.

Finn only managed to say one word “Portal”.

“Ah…” said the wizard. “Portal travel can be like a long journey for some people and for others a short walk”.

Finn nodded. “Expect in long journeys you don’t end up feeling dizzy….” added the wizard, taking a sip of his tea.

Finn picked up his teacup afraid it was going to spill, and took a sip of it, the moment it touched his lips, his hands stopped shaking.

“Now anyway” said The wizard. “I haven’t had many customers lately…”.

“What do you mean?” asked Finn, who had found his voice. He looked over his shoulder two shaded figures stood there chatting on and on. “Arn’t they customers?”.

“No there elven spies. I had to let them in they said something like the world is at stake or something” said the wizard, taking a sugar cube and dropped it into his tea cup.

Finn eating a cookie

“Elven spies?” said Finn, who had taken a cookie from the table near his chair, and took a bite of it with a crunch .

“They where sent by some elvish lords and ladies, I don’t know much else… ” said The wizard, stirring his tea with a spoon.

“Oh” said Finn, who was reaching for a second cookie, and stuffing it into the pocket of his jacket for “Later”.

“At least they never tell me. If I ask” said the wizard, there was a silence, Finn looked over at the two elves clad in black, they where still talking, but had laid a map out on the counter of the magic shop.

what where they doing anyway? Finn thought. “Also may I ask why they are in your store?” inquired Finn .

“You see…” said the wizard, he paused  “They asked for boarding, I let them in…”.

Finn nodded but there seemed to be more to the story then the wizard was telling him..but right now he was more counteracted on the cookies. They where so delicious the way they felt in your mouth , as they crumbled  in your mouth, how the chocolate melted on your tongue, they tasted so good, he needed another….Finn was so busy thinking about cookies..that he did not notice a black shape move across the floor and disappear into the dark corner. “Can I have another coo—cup of tea?” asked Finn, lifting his teacup which was empty , there was only a drip of tea left in the tea cup. The wizard kindly lifted the teapot and purred anther cup of tea, the tea ran in like a waterfall. Finn and the wizard sat a while drinking their tea (and eating cookies), they didn’t speak for awhile. Finn stared at his teacup , thinking on and on about cookies trying to keep his mind off what could have happened to his friends and sister

“I have been wondering this ever since I met you , Finn. Is your father the same short as Mr.short the hobbit who went on a adventure?” inquired the wizard.

Finn looked up, and almost spilled his tea. “Way yes he is” said Finn. “And for some reason everyone thinks he is…crazy”.

“I don’t think he is.” said the wizard, putting his hand on Finn’s shoulder. “besides If he hadn’t gone on the adventure he would have never met your mother”.

That was true, when he was little he had always dreamed of adventure…

but now he wasn’t so sure weather to continue on the journey or not. …of course he needed to what would become of his sister and his friends if he didn’t?

and what had happened to them anyway…

suddenly there was a sound of someone ringing a bell on and on  , the wizard looked up , “I better answer it”. He sat up from his seat , he set the tea cup down on the table.

And went over to the door, and opened it to men were standing there , “We were wondering, If you had seen a elf that smells like a hobbit” one said.

They were a pitch black jacket and had a wart on their nose they reminded Finn of the orcs, but how did they get here? and how did they take that form?

“Well I haven’t seen anyone like that” he answered, as he was about to close the door, the other said

“What were meaning to say is have you seen…” he looked at the other , and whispered something. “Well we don’t quite know what he looks like , he’s a elvish hobbit or is it a hobbitish Elf?”

“Thank you for informing me, I will keep a ey—“ began the wizard.

“Wait, I think we have a picture of what he looks, like” one said, and handed him a parchment with a stick figure drawn on it, with pointy ears and very big feet.

“Thank you” he said, “But why are you looking for this person?”

“Umm…” began One, “I…well…you see…”.

“Thank you, I will tell you if I see him” said the wizard, and shut the door.

Finn was sitting there with a cookie in his hand, looking surprised.

“H-How did they find me?”.

“I don’t know, they were very odd. Almost like there was a spell on them” he said, scratching his chin. then sitting back down “But Don’t worry , I won’t tell them about you”.

Finn nodded , but he didn’t feel quite safe, with those people outside , and the encounter with the orcs still was fresh in his memory, they where quite Ugly with all those warts to think they had once been elves…Elves that had changed in a way over a thousand years ago or more, that had decided to join evil, and turned ugly in the process? he wasn’t so sure if that was the whole story his mother had told it them the story about orcs, “The creation of Orcs” or was it
“The tale of Orcs” He couldn’t remember really… all he could really remember was what had been happening when she told the story, Tess had been around the age of 4 or 5, Their Uncle Tirfendiel had been there, he well had been discussing stuff about laws and such with his mother, but Finn hadn’t been interested in that. He had been more interested in The story, his mother had been telling, the story about adventure. But  Lida had been saying that she wanted their mother to tell them a story that wasn’t about orcs…But now he had orcs chasing him!

He wanted hide under a blanket or find out this was all just a bad dream, and go back to normal life…Where you could eat as much food as you liked, And have stories told by the Hearth. The stories would always have a happy ending , The princess would always marry the prince, and the villain was always defeated , In some way. The Dragons returned to their Dens , but what if His adventure didn’t? What if he never saw his friends or his sister again?
what if he never could go home, what if he was lost…forever ??? Finn began to think of the worst, and began to eat the cookies he had saved for “later” they where a little bit crumbled but they were good anyway. What if they had gotten eaten by the orcs?

“Finn are you alright?” asked the wizard.

“No, I believe my friends were kidnaped by the orcs…”

oooh...cliff hanger!:)

What do you think Happened to Lida , Eldon, Carmen, Lauralas and George?

Tess Short Chapter 12

Greetings, I'm sorry for my delay in posting the next chapter...
But here it is....

chapter 12: An ill warning..
Theron looked at her for awhile then said “No, the leafs aren’t supposed to have any side effects, there supposed to stop nightmares and bad dreams” his eyes seemed to moved around the room when he said that.
“Well…” sighed Tess, she could feel her own heart beating. “I had a dream…”.
“You did? what kind of dream?”
Tess told Theron about her dream, about Mr.largefoot, and the moon ravens at the very end.
“I don’t know why the leafs didn’t help you” he said, Then he fumbled in his pocket and brought out a parcel wrapped up in brown fabric. “This might though” His voice sounded unsure though, he handed it to Tess, which Tess held.
“Only open it when you need it though” he said, and left.
Tess looked at the parcel, she was holding. there was something about it though that made her feel unsafe and insecure, she tried not to think about it. and went off to her room to get dressed , for there was going to be a long journey ahead…
Tess went and packed her things, and put the parcel in the bag,
It was almost like it was watching her, like a cat looking at a mouse in the bushes, getting ready to pounce, at any moment.
She tried not to think about it and packed some spare clothes, that the dryads had given her , she had never put them on they were to pretty to wear…but she kept them just in case she ever needed them, or wanted to wear them, she put them in her bag. then looked at the two books she had brought, The book of Dragons, and The book of history, she picked up the books and placed them into her strap bag. Then looked at the white and gray clothes the elves had given her, though she was a half elf she wondered weather she would be able to keep them clean, and not get mud and dirt on them. She looked down at her brown dress, it was torn at the edges…probably because she had been walking through the undergrowth to get to the palace. Well…she figured she would bring them anyway, I mean you might need something to wear like that, If she was ever invited to a dinner. She put them in her bag. She looked at the rolling pin sitting on her bed. She had lied to Robin that she had brought a dagger, But she had really just brought a rolling pin… Why hadn’t she just told him? She sighed and put it into her bag then slung it over her shoulder. And opened the door. The rest of the group was waiting for her, Thanarien was standing silently with the questers. “Good morning Tess” smiled Robin. Tess didn’t reply , she silently went over with the other questers.
Thanarien went up and made a speech that seemed to last for hours, Until he finally ended it..
In that time Tess had been reading a book, she looked up when she heard the sound of applause, from the elves and faeries who had come to Thanarien’s court. But no dryads had come, And how had Silena been able to come, she looked over at Silena, who was talking to Robin, she figured she would’t interrupt them. She looked back at the book, she still hadn’t finished the story of the ice-dragon she had gotten to the middle. “What are you reading?” asked a voice. Tess looked up The black-haired Fairy Thistle was smiling at her.
“Well…” said Tess. “I’m reading the book of dragons, I’m on the Tale of the Ice dragon”.
“Is it good?” asked Thistle.
“Aye” said Tess, smiling back. “It is about dragons, I was assigned to read for the book club..” She moved her finger across the dragon on the cover of the book.
Before Thistle could reply , Thanarien announced the horses were ready.
Tess put the book back in her bag, and walked up to see the horses, Robin’s horse chestnut was looking at her.. Tess pretended not to notice, and climbed onto her pony. Once everyone had gotten on to there Horses, The questers set off into the cold morning air , Tess couldn’t help feeling her bag, and to make sure the parcel was still there. She looked over at Thistle, He was looking at the map, which Thanarien had given to them for the journey… Thistle seemed to be looking at it. Then looked up, “since the moon Ravens appear  to be coming from The north , Then I believe we should go that way” said Thistle. “By flying it would take less time….But since none of you have wings.. I don’t think we could do that…”.

“That is true…” said Robin, who was rather glad that he didn’t have wings sticking out of his back, It most be so uncomfortable for Thistle, Having wings coming out of his back.

“So Riding and walking, Would be good for us” he said, “Come on, We have to find those fairies and elves”.

Tess still wondered about What had happened to those elves and faeries , she also wondered why her uncle Tirfendiel had never showed up for the meeting, Thanarien sounded awfully calm when he said that her uncle Tirfendiel was late (and never came). But when she talked to most elves they seemed that way…expect of course for Robin, He was always talking to his horse Chestnut, and held his sword with shaking hands he never really seemed a expert with weapons, though he carried around a single sword, Very much like her Uncle Tirfendiel, She was happily surprised when he came to her Birthday Party, He always carried around a single sword, That Glowed Green when ever monsters were around , But for some reason he did have a tendency to apologize to it for some weird reason , If he dropped it (By accident may I add) it would start flickering on and off, and he would pick it up, And would say things to it , such as “I’m very sorry I didn’t mean to drop you” , and “Oh dear, not again” and sometimes “It wasn’t my fault!!” The sword appeared to have a tendency to sulk and refuse to tell him if there were Monsters around. Sometimes, It appeared that sometimes he had to beg to the sword to glow and forgive him, for dropping it.

She put her hand on her bracelet which the dryads had given her , it was in a shape of branches weaving around to make a bracelet, The dryad had told her that it was made out of the same metal as elvish blades , it would glow whenever monsters were around, Very much like her uncles sword, which glowed whenever monsters around (or whenever he dropped it), She still wasn’t quite sure how elvish blades worked or the metal in particular. Did it just glow when you dropped it or only when monsters were around? She didn’t really want to try dropping it, Like her uncle had dropped his sword. She didn’t want to damage it , it was so pretty…
She moved her finger around the branches, and feeling the cold metal, with her finger. She was brought back to that same question again… what had happened to the elves and fairies?

“Here” said a voice, Tess hadn’t realized how far they had traveled, the castle was no where to be seen now. “Is a good spot to rest for the night” it was Robin , his rather short and choppy  Nut-brown hair was blowing in the breeze, she could see the sun setting behind him, soon it would be night. And many things would be out.

“How about we sleep in a Inn” said Tess, not wanting to be eaten by a monster considering what had happened last time. she had nearly became a cyclops dinner. “Where it’s warm, and we have comfortable beds, and good food and—“.

“Tess!” said Robin, “There is no Inn near by that I know of, that’s why we will be sleeping here for tonight” .

He didn’t speak to Tess after that neither did Tess, she remained quite and only read her book , she didn’t want to go to sleep instead she read her book that she had brought on the journey , she figured she should learn more about the monsters they would be dealing with:

Orcs - once where elves, but turned evil…

She couldn’t keep her eyes open, she found them slowly closing, she turned to the next page of the book, but was greeted with more text…

She sighed, “This is the only time words feel like a enemy”, and closed the book. and Stared up at the sky…

“Oh how I miss home…” she said, and felt her eyes close.

“Why did I have to close my eyes” she found herself saying, and looked around. she was in the library. “Well…maybe it’s a good dream” said Tess. “Or it was the fact that I was reading a book before bed” she said.
“Maim , are you looking for something?” came a voice,
a boy came over to her. “Who are you?” asked Tess. “
I should be asking that who are you?” he asked. “
Tess Short” said Tess.
“Never heard of you” he said.
“But I have live here” she said.
“Not anymore” he said, rather causally. “Have  you looked out the window?” he asked.
“Umm…no, why should I?” she said.
“You shall see” he said, and lifted up the curtain.
“W-what is that?” asked Tess, looking out the window, the sky was black , the sun was red, everyone looked unhappy, and Tired.
“And I suppose you are wondering what this means” he said. Tess nodded. “This is what might happen if you fail your quest” he said, stroking his chin.
“Wait, what do you mean? why haven’t you ever heard of me? what about my father?” she asked all at once.
“Hold your horse— ponies I should say, your father is fine. the rest of your family not so much…” he said.
“what do you mean?” asked Tess. “
Well, I can’t really tell you” he said. “But if you want their addresses I can give them to you” he said, and brought out a pen. “But I wouldn’t recommend going to King Tirfindiel’s castle , right now.…because eh— I can’t tell you but It’s a terrible idea” he said. “
Thank you, but can you direct me to my father’s house?” she asked.
“Sure” he said. “But it’s no where nearby really (anymore)” he said.
“Don’t worry , it’s a dream anything can happen” said Tess. “Such as flying” she said, and spread her arms wide, nothing happened. “
It’s not that kind of dream” he said. “Here I can walk you there” he said…
at the end of the street there was a sign: The short’s hole in the ground. “Why isn’t it in the woods?” asked Tess, walking up to the door.
“Because— never mind I can’t tell you that would be helping you, and I don’t help people unless it involves books” he said. Tess knocked on the door,
“Whoever you are, leave! I already paid the taxes you have been ordering!” came a voice, most likely her father’s. She turned to the boy who had come along with her he was gone.
“I wonder why he would leave me here?” she said, to herself then turned back to the door. “I came here, to talk to you” she replied back.
“I’m sorry, but’s not safe to talk to strangers” said the voice said back.
“I am no stranger” said Tess, but couldn’t help feeling like she was. suddenly there a sound that sounded like thunder rumbling she turned around, a man was walking down the street
“Bring out your money” he shouted, he was wearing black and din’t look like the nicest person (Tess thought he resembled a orc), there was a short hobbit following behind playing the drum and falling over his own feet (he seemed oddly familiar), he didn’t look very happy with playing the drum.
“Come on hobbit stop falling behind” The tax collector  shouted to the drum player. the drum-player dropped the drum with a loud crash ,
“Don’t you dare call me that ever!” The Hobbit shouted loudly.

Tess’s eyes opened with a start, she looked around then noticed something her bracelet was glowing!

Tess Short's story chapter 11

Chapter 11: A long meeting, and tea with mr.largefoot

“Tess? Tess?” a voice was calling her, were was she? what had happened? she opened her eyes , and saw Inny looking over her “Inny!” Tess said, “W-what happened?” she asked, looking around her…”You fainted” said Inny, “Are you alright?” she asked. “I-I don’t know” said Tess, she looked down at her feet, what was she going to tell Inny? she had been hided the secret for so long, she couldn’t hold it in anymore, “I saw someone in my dream, I don’t know who they are but…they asked me to join them” said Tess. “Tell me you said no” said Inny. “I said no” said Tess, then paused remembering the icy cold voice, the figure with no face (that she knew of.) “But then they told me, ‘you will have to face your fate’” said Tess. Inny looked worried “Maybe…we should go get, Robin, or Theron Ravenfeather, or someone” she said, “I will be right back” she said, and ran out of the room…
when she came back she was with Theron , Theron came up to her , “Tess, Tell me more, about this figure…” he said. Tess looked at him, then said “I remember the figure telling me it was to late to turn back,  then they offered me, a adventure free life” said Tess, “I’m glad you said no, Inny told me about it…you look fine, but just in case eat this” he said, and handed her what looked like leafs “Also , there will be meeting tomorrow be sure to come on time” he said, then handed Inny a peace of paper and left.
the next morning  Tess decided to explore the palace, she tried to keep her mind off the shaded figure, the palace was beautiful, the pillars had ivy growing on them. and floors were a beautiful white marble, the morning sunlight shone in through the windows, she gazed out them for awhile the woods were so far from there, she could see the town  in the distance , were they slept a few nights ago. in the distance there were shapes of mountains covered by fog, she let out a sigh.. “Tess, are you coming to the meeting?” asked Robin, coming up to her “I will come, have you ever wondered what lies beyond the mist of the mountains?” she asked. “Aye” said Robin. “Come now, we must not keep them waiting” said Robin, Tess and Robin walked into the room were the meeting was to be held, A fairy with jet-black hair and green eyes, they seemed to changing colors from green to pink, he sat with other fairies.  There was also a dryad with Orange hair and green eyes “Silena? what are you doing here?”  asked Robin. she looked up , “I’l tell you later…” she whispered. “Please take your seats” said a voice, a elf with auburn/orange hair came up to the table his eyes were a deep blue color. “I’m afraid we will have to start this meeting without King Tirfindiel, I’m afraid he’s late” he said. “But let’s start the meeting shall we?” he said. ‘It’s unlike my uncle to be late for anything’ Tess thought. ‘What if something happened?’.
“We came here to talk about the things that have been happening” said he. “I’m afraid, elves, Fairies, and other powerful creatures, have been disappearing for a unknown reason ”  he said. “Also there have been rumors spreading that monsters have been seen” he said.  “Could something  bigger and more powerful be letting them out? for they couldn’t be let out on there own , the rock that blocked there prison would be too heavy for even the biggest and strongest monster to be able to move” said the fairy, “Maybe thistle, but nothing that powerful was ever recorded in any of the documents” said Thanarien… “That’s true” said Thistle, gazing off into the distance. “Maybe people were too scared to write it down” said Silena. “But I May be wrong” she added. “The monster could have some type of power they makes people forget” said Tess. “Monster could be quick, and sneaky” mumbled Silena.
Suddenly thistle stood up from his seat. and said
“may I point out that my people have been disappearing, and we are talking about a monster that may not exist” “Thistle please remain seated” said Thanarien. Thistle sat down reluctantly.
“I have to agree, with Thistle there may not even be a monster like that” said Tess. “nothing like that has ever been recorded in any documents for one…maybe the monsters just escaped on there own” said Tess.
“But…what happened to the people who disappeared?” she said aloud. “I don’t know…That’s why I’m going to send questers to find out” said Thanarien. “The world is at stake, if you do nothing. it will…most likely end” he said, very calming as if it was nothing. “Who is willing to go?” he asked. there was a silence , no one answered. “I will” said Tess, breaking the silence, she had never been this exited about the idea of adventure in her life. “She can’t go alone, I’m coming with you” said Thistle. “I never said I was going alone” mumbled Tess. “I shall come to” said Robin. “Me too!” said Inny, “How can we trust a hag?” asked a fairy. “She can be trusted…” Protested Robin, “And she is a half hag!”.
Silena slowly stood up from her seat, “I will come with you” she said, blowing a peace of auburn hair out of her face. “I assume , you will be needing me” she said, and walked over to the group, there was a cheer from people at the table the only one who didn’t cheer was Thanarien, “I don’t know if they will be able to it..” he said silently , looking down at his feet. but his words unheard by the questers, through the sounds of cheering and laughter.

that night Tess lied in bed, staring up at the ceiling , thinking about the long journey ahead. She had always wondered about her father’s adventure, and wondered if she would go one herself, she had never considered the dangers of a adventure…but now she knew. she wondered weather her uncle was alright , he had not come to the meeting , it was so unlike him, maybe he had been busy that’s all nothing to be worried about.
but still it seemed unlike him to be late or not show up for something, he had come to her birthday (On time matter a fact). so why did he miss the meeting?
he could’v been busy with making laws or something, she looked at the leafs Theron had given her she hadn’t eaten them yet maybe she should she took a bite, she didn’t feel very different or anything , but she ate them anyway..then closed her eyes, hoping not to have any nightmares

Tess found herself standing on a doorstep of a hobbit hole, she looked around , maybe this wasn’t a nightmare just a dream, just a nice dream , she looked around , there was a sign near by it said:

welcome to the large foot’s hole

(if you are involved in anything such as asking me on a adventure then please leave)

she decided to knock on the door, even if it was a dream then maybe mr.largefoot could help in her, in a way.

The door was opened by a short man “Who are you?” he asked. “Tess…short” Tess Managed to say. “You came back? I thought you went on a adventure” he said. “Well I still am, on a adventure…this is a dream it might be hard to explain…I don’t know if you are real or not I mean, I could be talking to a dream version of you, or something you could be in my dream we could be both dreaming—“ she began , “I understand” he said. “You do?” asked Tess. “Also have you seen my uncle King Tirfindiel?” asked Tess. “Yes and No, but i’m afraid I can’t tell you more” he said, poring a cup of tea, “Do you want tea?”. “Sure…” said Tess, “Even if it is a dream” she said, and took a cup of tea , and drank it “It tastes like dirt” she said out loud, “It’s English breakfast” said Mr.largefoot.
“I’m Very sorry, you know this is a dream, and perfectly good English breakfast tea can well…taste like dirt” she said. Mr.largefoot crossed his arms “I’m afraid Ms.Short you will have to leave” he said. “But…but you didn’t answer my question yet” she said, but Mr.largefoot had already slammed the door. Alright maybe he hadn’t been the most helpful person,  she walked around the hobbit village, she walked by a hole there was a wooden sign next to it saying:

welcome to the short’s hairfoot’s Hobbit hole

‘Was this my father’s home, before he went on a adventure?’ she thought. suddenly she heard the sound of what sound like hundreds and hundreds of birds , Moon Ravens!

Tess gasped, it was morning, but she still had the taste of dirt on her tongue. but that didn’t matter, she put on a elven dressing gown. she ran as fast as she could to Theron “Theron does the healing herbs you gave me, have any side effects?” she asked.

Tess Short story chapter 8

Chapter 8:  the secret of the map

After the argument ended, with Lida stating the reasons why she is the oldest, Lida and Finn snuck up stairs again…Finn had the map and elvish knives hid behind his back..they walked across the kitchen floor hardly making a sound until creek “Finn!” said a voice, Lida and finn turned around. it was there mother  “Could you help me with Dinner?”  she asked, “Umm…” said Finn…”I’m really busy , with school…you know the teacher wanted to write me a report about, something…er Dwarves!  and I really need to study about it you know “ said Finn. “Finn, that report can wait…what’s that behind your back?” she asked, “Nothing just school things…no daggers, or maps or anything like that” he said, “What he means, is that he has plenty of normal things behind, his back. and he needs to get upstairs , just you know put his things away, we’l be right back mother!” said Lida, and quickly went upstairs…”Let’s hide them under the bed” said Lida, and slid them under the first bunk of there bunk bed… “That will be good for now” said Lida. “Come on, we really do need to help mother with cooking” said Lida…Lida and Finn ran quickly down stairs, “So I’m ready…” said Finn. “Good, could you help me put the bread in the oven? and tell me more about this report on dwarves” said There mother. “Umm…so I was thinking elves always misjudge dwarves, I mean how often do elves blame dwarves for Taking— “ began Finn. “Umm…so Finn, got some  really good cook books! Maybe we should try a few” said Lida. “Maybe…but Tell me more what were you saying about dwarves?” she asked. “well as I was saying elves always blame dwarves for taking there tr—“ began Finn. “umm…here is a good repipe” said Lida, pointing at a recipe…”It’s interesting I have to say” said Ms.short, turning to the book… “That would be a excellent recipe , oh I and I  have the agreements for it” said Ms.short…”Lida!” said Finn. “You interrupted my speech on how elves should treat dwarves better then they do” said Finn. “But Finn it isn’t a real report…” Lida whispered. “Fine!” said Finn…”If it’s alright, Mother..me and LIda are going to go upstairs, it’s been a long day, and we need to take a rest..relax” he said, “That’s alright Finn, you and Lida can go upstairs” she said, “Thank you Mother”  said Finn, and grabbed Lida by the hand and ran upstairs…Lida and Finn quickly closed the door, and put a sign that hung over the door that read:

Do not enter or else…

“Finn are you sure you need that sign” said Lida. “Positive” said Finn. “So we need a plan, how are we going to rescue Tess?” he asked, “How about we sneak out at dawn, and go searching for her, and of course leave a note that says were alright” said Lida. “That would be good” said Finn, pulled the map from out from under the bed, “Were do you think you think Tess would’v gone?” he asked. “I don’t know..maybe the woods?” she said. “Probably..but that seems unlikely I mean, what could be in the woods besides elves, and animals. not much…really” he said. “Umm…Maybe she could’v gone into the mountains” said Lida. “What? If I was adventurer that’s were I would go” she said…
“Maybe she could’v gone to these elf towns, maybe” said Finn. “I don’t think that would be quite as adventurous as climbing a mountain” said Lida. “Lida , Finn Dinner!” shouted a voice. “It’s dinner time” said Lida. “Anyway I’m sure she went to the mountains” she said, “Oh and Finn, put the map away” she said, “Alright” he said, as he put the map back he noticed something. written on the end of it, it was in elvish but , he could read it quite clearly (being half elf):

a guide to help your adventure will appear when____

the last few words had been smudged..”When?” he said, out loud. “Finn” said Lida. “Come on, I don’t want our food to get cold”. “Lida, Look at this” said Finn, Lida came over , and looked over finn’s shoulder. “I never noticed that, but the guide to help our  adventure , will appear when?” she said. “I think we should ask Eldon , about this” she said, “Why Eldon?” asked Finn. “Well…he seems to know a lot about elves…” said Lida. “And we’l talk to him after Dinner” said Lida, and ran down stairs, Finn slid the map under the bed..and fellowed. “Lida, Finn. there you are” said Ms.short… “I’m glad you came, before your food got cold” she said…Lida and Finn sat down at the table, a elvish table cloth had been spread across it, it had silhouettes of elvish archers , sword-fighters, and in the center of the table there was a huge detailed flower..each petal looked like it was moving. Lida took her seat at the table, so did Finn…on there plates were, cut-up fruit and vestibules, and on the side Lembas (A elvish bread) , the cups were filled with elvish drinks. “So how was your day?” asked Ms.short. “Good” said Finn….
“I finished the report , about dwarves” said Finn….”That’s good” said Mr.short. “Maybe you can read it to us” he said.”Yes” answered Finn, then turned to Lida “What do I do?” whispered Finn to Lida. “I don’t know” whispered Lida Back. “I didn’t even  write a report about dwarves…I can’t just write one on the spot” said Finn, “Maybe I can” said Lida, and took a peace of paper from her pocket and starting writing things down “Here this is the best I could do” said Lida, Finn stood up from the table with the peace of paper in his hand he gulped and read aloud,  “A dwarves are short people, that eat a lot of food and carry axes around…’ He began. “They are taller then Hobbits, but shorter then your average elf, dwarves are known to steal treasure from elves” he shot Lida a quick Glare, then continued reading, “Dwarves, also barge into Hobbit’s houses without a invitation ”. Ms.short and Mr.short looked at one author they weren’t sure what to think..”Umm…thank you finn for reading that to us” said Ms.short. then she whispered in Mr.short’s ear “I thought he was going to write a report on how dwarves are misjudged…not about how dwarves cause problems” Mr.short nodded. “You did a great job Finn” said Lida. “But..I was reading what you wrote to me, don’t you think you should’v written the good things about dwarves and not their flaws” he whispered. .. “Well dwarves , do steal elves treasure is all I can say” said Lida, and crossed her arms. “Well…dwarves should be seen better, I love there axes” said Finn and crossed his arms , and turned away from Lida… “So” said Mr.short…interrupting the silence, “How have you been Lida?”. “Good..” she said, “I hear there is going to be  a new shoe shop” she said…”And they will be making shoes of all shapes and sizes, even for people with large feet, and small feet!” she said…
“That’s interesting Lida” said Ms.short, “How have you been, mother and father?” asked Finn, “Good, but I haven’t gotten any letters back from your uncle” said Ms.short, “do you think he’s alright” she said… “I’m sure he’s Fine” said Mr.short, “he could be just busy with his kingdom and all”. “I don’t but I haven’t heard back from him in days” said Ms.short, her a peace of golden hair fell over her face , she blew it off…do you mind if we are excused?” asked Finn. “Yes” said Ms.short, softly…Lida and Finn went upstairs , and opened the door to there room it creaked open, Finn ran in and reached under his bed and grabbed the map , “Come on Lida, let’s go see Eldon” he said. Lida and Finn silently walked down the stairs, Finn peeked over the railing , there parents were talking together around the fire, their mother was crying into a pocket-handkerchief, and their father was trying to tell her that everything was alright. “The cost is clear” said Finn. then they snuck down the stairs, and snuck out the door…, and ran out of their the hill and into the town…it was a silent night, all the stores were closed…”I hope the Library is still open” said Lida, hopefully…Lida and Finn..walked slowly up the library all the windows were dark, it looked frightening in the dark with only the light of the moon shining on it…Lida walked up the door there was a sign over it that read:

Closed

“What are we going to do now?” asked Lida, and leaned her head angst the door. “Are you looking for someone?” asked a voice, Lida turned around there stood Lauralas. “Laurlas, oh it’s I was worried…you were someone else. how did you know we would be here?”  Lida asked. “I could tell you needed help, now anyway Eldon is waiting for you, fellow me” she said…Lida and Finn nodded and fellowed Lauralas, around the block all the way to a house at the end of the block, it was unclear what color the house was . but there was a sign next to it read:

Welcome to the last homely house

Lauralas knocked on the door….”Come in” said a voice, Lauralas slowly opened the door, then led Lida and Finn in…Eldon, George , and Carmen were sitting around a table playing a game of cards. “Do you have the elf king?” asked Eldon to George. “No , draw your blade” he said, Eldon picked a card from the pile. “Do you have the fairy warrior?” asked George. “Yes” grumbled Eldon, and took a card from his bunch and handed it to George…”Thank you lord Eldon” said George. “Eldon” said Lauralas. “Yes” said Eldon turning around from the game…”Can I help you with anything?”. Eldon was sitting in a dressing gown , and wearing pajamas , his glasses were on his head. “Umm…can you help us with this?” asked Lida, handing Eldon the map. “Hmmm…” said Eldon…”Let me see, ah yes Lemon juice!” he said. “Come on” he said, “there are some Lemons in the kitchen” he said…”Eldon I believe it’s moo—“ began Carmen. “Here it is you dab it on the paper, and it will appear.” said Eldon.  Lida ,  Finn and Eldon dabbed Lemon juice on the map…they waited nothing happened

“Hmm…I think we need more lemon-juice” said Eldon. “Eldon, it’s moon light!” said Carmen but Eldon had already gone to get more Lemons…When Eldon came back , he began dabbing Lemon juice on the map again

 five hours later…

there was no success , “‘Well…what are going to try now?” asked Eldon. “How about moonlight” whispered Carmen. “Ah yes, Moonlight , I should have thought of it before, here come with me to the baloney there is a much better view from here” said Eldon, Lida and Finn fellowed him to a balcony overlooking the their town, the moon shone bright that night…Eldon lifted the map toward the moon and words started to appear

your journey will be long and dangerous… danger will lurk in dark corners.

the trust in your friends will keep you safe from the dangers

but beware for evil lurks in every corner

“ Ah I see, the message  changes often depending on the person or quest…” said Carmen walking up…”As I can see from this you can not go alone , it’s too dangerous” she said…”I’l come along” said Carmen. “Me too” said Eldon, who didn’t want to be left out o the adventure er search party. “I shall come, you need a good archer” said Lauralas, walking in. “I will come along too” said George, still holding his cards from the card game… “I will bring a axe”  he added.
“To rescue Tess!” said Lida. “To rescue Tess!!” cheered the group… “We will meet together at dawn, And I will get you too elvish blades” said Lida. “Thank you” said Eldon, “I always wanted to hold a elvish blade but for some reason , your uncle Tirfindiel doesn’t let me hold his , even if I ask” said Eldon.  the group stared at Eldon not knowing how to react “What?” he said.
